The Universal
Tucked just out of sight behind the Watt Bros department store, The Universal is a hidden gem- one of the best bars in Glasgow and doubled as a restaurant and club venue upstairs. The staff are laid-back and friendly, the drink is good and reasonably priced, the atmosphere is unpretentious but hip. Cool music - they have occasional acoustic gigs - and low lighting make it a haven away from the drunken revelry that takes over the rest of Sauchiehall Street at weekends. Mind you, you still have to walk home through it, so drink up and if you can't beat 'em -
