5 American TV Guilty Pleasures

We can quite tear our eyes away...

Feature

Right, so Christmas is over and we're all looking for a bit of escape from the ridiculous weather (not to mention the January sales madness), and what better way than to immerse ourselves in an addictive American TV show?

Itchy has had a little think and come up with a few of our favourite US TV guilty pleasures. Don't judge us.

The OC
The original guilty pleasure. Perfect for escaping a dreary UK day, just switch on and be transported to sun-soaked Orange County, California. Itchy can't help but want to know what happens to spoilt teens Marissa, Seth and Summer (not to mention that beefcake Ryan...) even if the plot started to go a bit crazy around the fourth series (Summer becomes an activist with a rabbit named Pancakes? Yeeeeeah.) Watch it for the soundtrack if nothing else.

Gossip Girl
If you like attractive girls, scandal and rich people having brunch 24/7 then you'll love Gossip Girl. Itchy's personal favourite Gossip Girl activity is working out who is going to hook up with who… and who is now awkwardly related as a result. (Dan and Serena were at one point boyfriend and girlfriend AND stepbrother and stepsister… ouch.) Warning: this may leave you yearning for a summer in the Hamptons (even if you don't quite know where they are)

90210
This is mainly a must-watch due to the completely unbelievable plotlines... a load of high school kids living in a mansion (funded by one ridiculously rich and spoilt girl) who seem to manage to become famous every other week. What’s that? Liam’s a model now? Teddy’s a famous tennis player? Adriana used to be a famous singer but now she’s given it all up and become a waitress? Sure. And seeing as we've gone a bit girly, we can't help but mention the topless surfing men. Yum.

New Girl
This new show features Itchy's girl crush Zooey Deschanel as a quirky newly-single girl who ends up moving in with a bunch of dysfunctional guys. Brilliant. She may irritate you at times, but who else would put a turkey in a washing machine to thaw it? Altogether now: "Who's that girl? She's JESS!" (Watch out for the handbell group playing Eye of the Tiger.)

Glee
Okay, we admit that this could possibly be quite a few people's idea of a worst nightmare: a mismatched group of preppy/loser kids singing show-choir covers of modern hits based around a losely formed plot involving power struggles and love triangles... but Itchy can't help tapping our feet along to the Fleetwood Mac episode (and Sue Sylvester is priceless)

Well, what are you waiting for? Itchy will make the popcorn if you find the remote...
