Itchy's in love with a cyborg, but that's OK

chan-wook park I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK movie review

A delightful love story about a wannabe cyborg who talks to vending machines and a kleptomaniac who steals people's personality traits, set against the charming backdrop of a Korean sanatorium – you can tell this one's going to be something a bit special.

From the director of Oldboy, Chan-wook Park's latest masterpiece I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK is the cutest – and possibly best – movie about psychotics we've ever seen, and we've crossed some nutters in our time.

Before we start on a synopsis, we should warn you that this will make almost no sense whatsoever, but just trust us and go and see it.

In the film, Young-goon realises she is a cyborg when her bicycle taunts her for not being faster than an ambulance taking away her mentally disturbed grandmother. For the rest of the movie, (which takes place in an insane asylum and in its residents' fantasies), Young-goon attempts to return her granny's left-behind dentures.

To do this, she needs the help of Il-sun, a fellow inmate and thief, to steal her sympathy so she can murder the hospital workers with her machine gun hands. Sound disturbing? Trust us, we've never seen the brutal mass slaughter of innocent nurses look so gosh darned adorable.

If you can get past the first, somewhat disturbing scene – think: The Virgin Suicides – this movie will be sure to make you reconsider any irrational fears of the insane. The nut-jobs in this joint are just misunderstood. At one point Young-goon exclaims, 'I'm not a psy-cho; I'm a cy-borg!' Ooooh, so now we see.

A great story and also quite beautiful to look at – we give Cyborg two bullet-riddled thumbs up.

I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK is on nationwide release from 4th April
