May events in Glasgow
Psychic and Healing Fair
Royal Concert Hall
16-17 May
If you think you may be due your tall dark stranger, and are seeking confirmation, this isn't the fair to attend. While crystal balls abound, and head massages and foot readings might help straighten out your chakras; talks on such topics as the healing powers of Glasgow cathedral and how to open your sixth sense to fairies, mermaids, unicorns and gnomes, mean that you should consider bringing something soft and thick to muffle your guffaws.

Glasgow Subway Festival
Various underground locations
22-24 May
Come kick it where the air is hot and dusty, the passengers uptight and the beats a-bumpin at this, the second festival to hit the city's least likely platforms. The free fest will take place across 7 themed underground stations (details tba but last year's included science at Cessnock and swords and shields at Kinning Park), as well as on trains across the network. Buy a badge - proceeds go to charidee and if you get caught wearing it, you might win an on-the-spot prize.

Dr Sketchy's Anti Art School
The Arches
24 May
£7/ £5 conc.
So you want a wild night out getting tanked up and mischievous amid burlesque stars, contortionists, fire jugglers and sideshow freaks sure. But you'd feel guilty about missing your art class. Toughie. Luckily for you, Molly Crabapple is four years ahead of the game - in 2005 she contemplated sexing up life-drawing classes, and Phyllis Martin swiftly followed her lead: Dr Sketchy, a night of drinking, gawping and drawing, was born. Pack a pencilcase and rely on the whisky for steadying your hand.

Bob Dylan
S.E.C.C
2 May
£37- £42
American folk rock legend Bob Dylan may be almost 70, but he's still touring and bringing hits like Hurricane, Like a Rolling Stone, Tangled Up in Blue and Lay Lady Lay to the masses. Don't miss your chance to hear his deep, sandpapery (in a good way) voice live.

Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships
Scotstoun Sports Campus
19-25 May
If you're lucky enough to have a table of your own, you'll be thinking of unfolding it soon, to hone your wrist action before barbeque season descends. After all, it would be awful to be beaten by the kid you used to babysit for 'again'. For tips, and to psyche yourself up a treat, behold the eye-darting speed at which you'll never, ever be able to play.

Doggy Dawdle
University of Glasgow
10 May
In general, Itchy resents the Sunday afternoon joggers more than the topless fatties and the queue at the ice cream van. But we get charity. Charity is important, even the animal ones. So if you've got a dog and a lead, and your dog is well into his walkies, join this student-organised dilly-dally and raise cash for the new Small Animal Hospital, so that more dogs like yours will get to dawdle through life for longer.
